Body

We know it’s been a while since you last heard from us, so we thought we would give you a quick update on how Lake Lyell Hydro is progressing.

Borehole geotechnical investigations

We’re undertaking further geotechnical investigations on Mount Walker. This work will tell us more about the ground conditions and help inform the project's ongoing design and planning.

So far, the results have been very pleasing, with samples showing a strong consistency with what we had previously uncovered and what we were hoping to find. Laurent Leveque, Senior Geology and Geotechnical Expert at EDF Group, flew in from France last week to inspect the work and was delighted to see the preliminary results.

“Although these investigations have a few more weeks to go, the samples that we are bringing to the surface are telling us that the ground conditions are the same as the earlier geotechnical investigations we did.”

“The consistent samples we are recovering indicate that the underground environment is likely to be suitable for the extensive underground infrastructure this project requires, such as the surge shafts, powerhouse, and tunnels,” Laurent said.

The geotechnical investigations will conclude in mid-December. We thank the community for its patience while the works are being carried out. We look forward to sharing the outcomes with you once the investigations have been completed.

Planning Progress Update

In April we reported that the public exhibition for the Lake Lyell Hydro Environmental Impact Statement had concluded. The submissions have been collated and the Lake Lyell Hydro team is working with key stakeholders to address the feedback prior to publishing a Submissions Report.

Plenty of other planning work is happening in the background. This includes conversations with community groups, First Nations representatives, Lithgow City Council and potential suppliers and service providers.

We are looking forward to finalising the Response to Submissions Report and we will share it widely once it is published. If you would like to connect with us, please feel free to drop in to Project HQ, email or phone us.
